Cytotoxicity and acute toxicity evaluation of hydrogen-rich Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino distillate

Hydrogen-rich Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino distillate (HRGD) consists of steam with hydrogen gas. Although both G. and hydrogen-rich water are well known for their biological medical benefits, there is a lack information on safety toxicity in vivo acute oral test vitro cytotoxicity method. The current study aimed to assess the HRGD as part evaluation using rat human cell models. was administered orally once by gavage male female Sprague-Dawley rats at doses 0, 2500, 5000 mg/kg. Cytotoxicity assay conducted various concentrations 10 different normal cancer lines; TK6 (human lymphomablastoid cells), Chang hepatic 16HBE14o- bronchial epithelial URotsa urothelium MCF breast Hela cervical A375 malignant melanoma HCT116 colon HepG2 liver cells) A549 non-small lung adenocarcinoma cells). From 14-day rats, we observed no compound-related changes mortality, clinical signs, body weight, food/water consumption, organ weight gross pathology all dose group. result shows that adverse effect level below mg/kg sexes minimal lethal considered be more than also had against tested cells. present data indicated may contain bioactive compounds potential therapeutic significance relatively safe from toxic effects.
